Verse I
Mary, Came rolling, In her dark, blue limousine,
One night as I was strolling, Down the mezzanine.
Through the window I watched her.
She beckoned to me,
And Mary, took me riding, From Ohio to the sea.
She made , Small talk, Served me from the bar.
"Mary," I said, "I would never walk,
If I owned such a car."
But Mary, She broke down crying.
I asked her what the matter was.
"Gary," she said, "I'm dying.
And the doctors don't know the cause.
All my life I've let money, Buy my happiness.
I learned about love, But I lived without love.
I've been a fool. I must confess.
I've been a fool. I must confess.

Verse II
"Mary," said the chauffer, "Here's another liquor store."
Mary said, "Pull over Dawn.
I think I'm gonna' need some more."
Through the window I watched her,
As she browsed the liquor store.
It scared me to think, That this bright spot,
Could soon be here no more.
So a long, dark limousine,
Goes rollin' East, into the night.
She's goin' to see the ocean,
For the last time in her life.

Bridge
Ooo--Is it too late, For love, To grow.
Ooo-Is it too late, For us, To know love.

Verse III
We played kid games, All the way to the coast.
Mary talked about her life.
She'd lived a bit more than most.
So a long, dark limousine,
Goes rolling east, Into the night.
Mary's eyes have stopped crying,
But now the tears are in mine.

Ooo--Is it too late, For love, To grow.
Ooo-Is it too late, For us, To know love.

Verse IV
Mary, Took to strolling, with a bottle, down the beach.
One night the waves were wild and rolling,
And she just got out of reach.
Through the tears I watched her.
She whispered to me,
"Don't ever doubt love. Don't do without love.
You'll be sorry, Just like me.
You'll be sorry. Just like me."

Ooo--Is it too late, For love, To grow.
Ooo-Is it too late, For us, To know love.

Ballads get to run long, to enable SingerSongwriters to tell the story. It's very visual, the limo exterior as viewed by the singer, the interior action, the along-the-way scenes, the beach. I'm not sure how long this one would run. Too long for radio, probably.
The "Ooo--Is it too late, For love, To grow" Movement has a nice emotional lift to it. A Bridge I think.
I envision a scene where he calls her doctor and asks if he really told her she's terminally ill, only to find the doctor saying, "No! I told the stupid little bitch if she didn't quit drinking she was going to die." We'd tone that down for the video. lol

Alcohol kills 250,000 Americans each year, year after year, lives that are often miserable, inflicting misery on family and community, cutting human potential in every role these people served as fathers, mothers, children, siblings, citizens, employees, entrepreneurs, inventors, role models, heroes, and so much more. Alcohol is the most abused drug on planet Earth and you're wise to avoid it.
