Chords:

There's a light on,
In your window,
But I don't know if you're at home.
There's a light on,
In your window.
I know I'm not welcome.

I know
I broke your heart.
I know what I've done wrong.
I know it's not for my sake,
That you'd leave The Light On.

There's a back gate,
To your garden.
All I'd have to do is lift the latch.
If I could
Beg your pardon,
There's a key beneath the mat.

I know
I broke our trust.
I heard your heart breakin' on the phone.
I know it's not for my sake,
That you'd leave The Light On.

So I'm leavin'
Alabama,
Goin' on to Miss-iss-ip-pi.
I'm not much of
a friend, am I?
You've been a better friend to me.
I hope you can forgive me,
Even if it's after I'm gone.
I pray someday for my sake,
You'll leave The Light On.
You'll leave The LIght On.

I was at the blues festival in Marietta, Ohio, and went out to my car. Up in the Lafayette Hotel, someone turned a light on.
