I went to see a friend of mine the other day.
He led me in the door again, And went away,
Into the tubes, Both babes in blue, And adults old and gray.
The T.V. tots who drew the lot, Of viewing the tubes all day,
And those of you who see yourselves,
Can you see yourselves at all?

Leave The Tubes Behind!
Don't besiege your mind.
Leave The Tubes Behind!

I went to see the band again and hear 'em play.
They cranked it up to nine or ten, And went away,
Into the tubes, with rhythm, blues,
And a rock that rolled away,
Electric men whose fate has been,
To play through tubes all day,
And those of you who hear yourselves,
Can you hear yourselves at all?

Leave The Tubes Behind!
Don't besiege your mind.
Leave The Tubes Behind!

I was hungry for people. But when I went to see them, they turned on their T.V.s and it was like they weren't there, and neither was I. I met musicians but they all played electric hard rock cover songs, no songwriting, and I was writing any kind of song that came to me, and playing them acoustically.
